David moved north in 1966 and joined Holland and Sherry fine cloths merchants where he was to give many years of loyal service until he retired. Since settling in Peebles David has played an active and productive role within an extensive list of local organisations, holding a varied list of office bearer positions. His love of Peebles and commitment to groups with its best interests at heart is without question. Organisations to have benefited from David's energy and enthusiasm include the Round Table, Peebles Youth Club, Britain in Bloom and Peebles Christmas Lights. David was also a member of the final versions of both the Peebles Town Council and Peeblesshire County Council before the re-structuring of local government, and a member of the Management Committee of the Citizen's Advice Bureau. David is currently a life member and past Chairman of Peebles March Riding and Beltane Festival committee and has complimented his links to his adopted town through his membership of the local Callants Association. His involvement with Peebles Highland Games spans many years during which time he has held various positions, most noteably being Secretary for 18 years before being Chairman from 1992 to 2002. David is married with three children and six grandchildren and is accompanied by his wife Edith.

Born and raised in Yorkshire, David completed his education at Huddersfield College before joining a local firm of Chartered Accountants. During this time he completed his two years National Service in the Army.
